Budgeting is a realllly scary word for most people. I am not a huge fan of budgeting but have learned in the last several years to appreciate the power that a budget affords me. It’s nice knowing how much money you have to work with versus spending money that you think you had, when in fact you never had it. So many people I know have run into problems trying to keep up with the Joneses. Using your friends or neighbors as a financial benchmark for where you are or desire to be is a recipe for disaster. Sure, we all want the nice house with the nice things but does that truly give you what you want?
Whether it does or does not, budgeting will give you a clear picture of your monthly finances. What you do with your money is up to you. I will give you a few budgeting tips that I integrate into improving my financial life. Feel free to share your budgeting tips with us smiley faces as well.

  • Always keep your spending below your income.
  • Be realistic about your budget.
  • Forgive yourself.
  • Record your expenses.
  • Have a plan to pay off debt.
  • Have a backup plan for emergencies.
